Planet Asia & TzariZM – Via Satellite

Too Much To Finish

Grammy award nominee Planet Asia and producer TzariZM come together like Rice Krispies and marshmallows to make us a delicious treat served up as Via Satellite. Veteran Asia brings the familiar flavor he’s notorious for while TzariZM holds everything together with some gooey beats. Don’t be deceived though; there is nothing sweet about this composition. Via Satellite contains ruthless, revenge-soaked diatribes that pull no punches.

17 tracks garnished with a couple of bonus songs, this album is not a snack but a full course meal. “I pray to God my son never see a bitch like you/The shit that I do it’s too official to diffuse,” Asia professes on “International Voice.” The lyrics on Via Satellite read like a Mafia manifesto – revenge, money, women, drugs, all the vices of a modern day ‘Goomba.’

The thing about Rice Krispies snacks is this: though they are a scrumptious staple of any childhood lunch box, after a while you get tired of them. Via Satellite has the same appeal. Though at first you’re gravitated towards its raw grittiness, after a few songs you long for something to wash the taste out your mouth. Planet Asia is good at what he does but here his lyrics make him look like a one trick pony, and the same can be said for TzariZM. He can create a sick beat, but of the instrumentals represented here things become a bit repetitive.

Via Satellite brings back a flavor that has been missing in modern hip hop: that “eye for an eye,” “watch your back” attitude that has been watered down as of late. If the scale of the album was toned down by trimming away a few tracks here or there, one might not get full before finishing this meal.
