Post-hardcore band Fugazi is releasing their first demo later this year, and in addition to the songs that came on that first demo cassette in 1988, this demo features a bonus track from the same studio session.
Well, twenty-six years since their first album, and thirteen since their last album, Fugazi’s releasing their demo album- aptly named First Demo. The band had played only ten shows when the demo was recorded at Inner Ear Studios in January of ’88. The demo was free to fans at concerts, but only ten of the eleven recorded songs were on it. Now, we’re finally getting that lost track: “Turn Off Your Guns.” The other song we know is on the album is the only song that was ever formally released off the cassette, “In Defense of Humans.”
There’s no tracklist or cover art out yet for this release nearly thirty years in the making, but the demo album will be available on CD and LP+mp3 according to Dischord Records. First Demo has been mastered by TJ Lipple, who has also worked with MGMT and Asobi Seksu. The long awaited release of this demo album also “coincide[s] with the completion of the initial round of uploads to the Fugazi Live Series website” that has “Fugazi’s 1000+ live performances” up and available to the public. Check it out here, and get First Demo when it comes out this winter.
