Goldfrapp, London electronic duo, has released a music video for ‘Laurel’ song from their latest record ‘Tales Of Us’, and it’s beautiful.
‘Tales Of Us’, ‘sounding like English countryside’, ‘having movie score feel’, consists of ten people-named tracks (except ‘Stranger’, what might be the brightest name of all), and appears to be one of Goldfrapp’s finest albums. The record had definitely written a new chapter in the band’s sounding and perception, shifting the audience from teens to adults, from playful to serious, from restless to calm. That’s what usually makes a good band great – growing up alongside their music.
‘Laurel’ is Goldfrapp’s fifth released music video from their 2013’s album after ‘Drew’, ‘Annabel’, ‘Jo’ and ‘Stranger’, all directed by Lisa Gunning.
Talking about the clip, both the song and the video are far away from ‘electronic’, ‘duo’ and any other band stereotypes. It’s just a part of life.
The one and only character is mysterious Laurel, who we feel isn’t only a part of the video – she also gives a feeling of singing and playing piano in the song.
‘Sexually restrained’ – that’s what the video is about. Thorough painting the nails, leisurable pool bathing or melancholic pole dance just for herself – that’s what Laurel is about. She lives life just for herself and that does not make her happy.
Band’s press release gives other thoughts about the clip meaning:
“Filmed in and around Los Angeles, “Laurel” tells the story of an actress seeking the bright lights of Hollywood”.
