To most Fred Armisen may be a comedic actor from such shows as Saturday Night Live, Portlandia, Brooklyn 99 and many more, but he is out to prove that he is just as Punk Rock as he is funny with his new superband Dead Men Walking.
On September 14, Fred along with members of The Damned, The Stray Cats, Guns N’ Roses and The Alarm will perform for the first time together as Dead Men Walking at the world famous Troubadour in Los Angeles, CA. The band will feature, Captain Sensible of The Damned, Slim Jim Phantom of The Stray Cats, Mike Peters of The Alarm, Chris Cheney of The Living End and The Wrights, Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses, Fred and maybe even a few surprise guests.
In an effort to prove to the world that Punk Rock is not dead, these different pieces of music history that have influenced genres from Alternative, Rockabilly, and Rock, but all got their roots in Punk, will perform a medley of each individual member’s hit songs, old favorites, new originals and more.
So why Fred Armisen? Well recently he popped up as band leader for Late Night with Seth Meyers, showing that he can really get down behind the guitar, then in a 2014 Entertainment Weekly article on his favorite cult records, he labeled The Damned as one of his all time favorite bands. Fred grew up listening to all the aforementioned bands, even creating an SNL character, comprised of all his musical heroes known as British punk rocker Ian Rubbish.
Now in a way, they have formed Dead Men Walking to prove that Punk is still relevant, and hope to inspire upcoming generations to keep their culture alive.
