Lazaretto Gets Jack White The Top Selling Vinyl Since 1994

Jack White’s latest album, Lazaretto, is breaking all kinds of records this year, the newest of which includes being the top-selling vinyl record since 1994.

Other notable accomplishments of Lazaretto are fastest pressed-and-released vinyl ever and biggest single-week vinyl sales since 1991. Now that the album has sold 60,000 copies, it has become not only the biggest vinyl of 2014, but also the biggest vinyl release since Pearl Jam’s 1994 record Vitalogy.

The Lazaretto ultra LP alone sold 40,000 copies in its first week. For recent comparative vinyl sales, 2013’s biggest record was Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories with 49,000 copies sold and the second-highest-selling for 2014 going to AM by Arctic Monkeys, with 29,000 copies.

Though Soundscan’s vinyl tracking only goes back to 1991, White has broken a 20-year-old record with his latest output and, based on recent appearances and collaborations, he won’t be slowing down any time soon. He has covered Jay-Z, Dick Dale and Jimi Hendrix in recent live performances. He will also be participating in Farm Aid 2014 and has been both working and performing with Beck.
