With a little less than a month before the Electric Zoo dance festival returns to Randalls Island in New York, the DEA has made an arrest pertaining to the death of two concert goers that put an abrupt end to last year’s festivities.
With the assistance of an unnamed informant, officials tracked down Patrick Morgan, 23, and charged him with narcotics distribution and narcotics conspiracy, both with a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
Morgan and company allegedly sold 80 pills to Jeffrey Russ and his friends. Russ later collapsed at the festival and died of an overdose shortly thereafter, forcing the final day of Electric Zoo 2013 to be cancelled.
Russ and his friends pooled together $1,000 for the MDMA pills, The New York Times reports.
Morgan appeared in a federal court last week and was released on a $100,000 signature bond.
Made Event, the sponsor behind Electric Zoo, plans to step up security measures for this year’s festivities, including extra police force and water with electrolytes for attendees.
Electric Zoo 2014 takes place Labor Day Weekend on Randalls Island, NY.
