Natham Williams began Wavves in San Diego, California in 2008. That year Wavves released off of Woodsist and Wavvves in 2009 off of Fat Possum/Bella Union. Williams recruited Ryan Ulsh as a tour drummer. Wavves began a US European tour, but it was cut short after Williams suffered a mental breakdown. Stephen Pope (bass) joined Wavves in late 2009. After William’s breakdown, Ulsh left the band and was replaced by Zach Hill.
With Billy Hayes as a drummer, the band recorded King of the Beach, which was released by Fat Possum Records in 2010. That year Hayes was replaced by Jacob Cooper on drums. The EP Life Sux was released the following year. Afraid of Heights was released in 2013.
