New York City’s own Interpol was formed back in 1997. The original line up consisted of Daniel Kessler (guitar, vocals) and Greg Drudy (percussion, drums). The two met while attending NYU. Carlos Denger (bass, guitar, keyboards) and Paul Banks (vocals, guitar) were added to the mix shortly thereafter and they named their group Interpol.
The band released the EP Fukd ID No. 3 in 2000. Soon afterwards Drudy left and was replaced by Sam Fogarino. The new line up released the EPs Precipitate in 2001 and Interpol in 2002. The band also signed to Matador Records in 2002. That summer they released Turn On the Bright Lights. Two years later Antics was released. In 2006 the band moved from Matador to Capitol Records. Out Love to Admire was released in 2007. In 2009 the band went back into studio, but split with Capitol and returned to Matador. Interpol was then released and it was announced that Dengler was leaving the band. David Pajo and Brandon Curtis (keyboards, vocals) stepped in to fill in for Dengler on tour. In 2011 Brad Truas filled in as bassist while the band was on tour. In 2012 Turn on the Bright Lights was re-released as a deluxe edition, including bonus tracks and the band went on hiatus. El Pintor, the band’s most recent album, was announced in summer of 2014 and is due to be released in September 2014. For the album Banks filled in for Dengler on bass and Curtis stepped in to record keyboard.
