Blues Legend Johnny Winter Dies At Age 70

Johnny Winter, the well-known American blues-rock guitarist and singer, passed away on July 16 at the age of 70.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Swiss police said that Winter was found dead in a hotel room outside of Zurich, Switzerland. He had been on tour in Europe. An autopsy has been ordered because the cause of death is currently unclear, although nothing indicates third-party involvement.

Winter was well-known for his masterful skill of the guitar. Rolling Stone magazine ranked Winter as the 63rd greatest guitar player of all time.

After appearing in the Rolling Stone magazine in 1968, Winter became famous nationally. The musician performed at the Woodstock festival. In the late 1970s, he collaborated with blues singer and guitarist Muddy Waters to produce three Grammy Award-winning albums.

Along with his brother Edgar, who was also a musician, Winter had albinism, which also distinguished the guitarist.

Step Back, a new album of Winter’s, is supposed to be released on September 2. Guitarists Eric Clapton, Billy Gibbons and Mark Knopfler collaborated with Winter to produce this album.
