As if “Weird Al” Yankovic hasn’t change the game enough already, selling over 12 million albums since 1975 with his hilarious parodies of popular hits, he’s done it again with his third video in three days.
“Foil,” his parody of Lorde’s “Royals,” is part of Al’s #8videos8days campaign for Mandatory Fun, his 14th studio album. Enlisting Patton Oswalt to play a producer, and Reno 911! stars Tom Lennon and Robert Ben Garant to play underground Men In Black-esque agents, “Foil” pokes fun at the uses of aluminum foil to preserve leftovers, and to stop mind control rays from aliens and the Illuminati.
Starting in a faux 1960’s television studio on the set of a cooking show, by the second verse of the song, the entire set is a dark conspiracy theorists worst nightmare.
The first two videos, “Tacky,” and “Word Crimes,” which were released earlier this week, are comedic takes on Pharrell William’s “Happy” and Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines.” Both videos are classic examples of what we’ve come to expect from Al and have already earned almost 4 million views combined, in three days, while “Foil” has received over 1 million in it’s first day.
