British singer- songwriter Carina Round recently released her contribution to Manimal Vinyl Record’s charity album Making Patterns Rhyme: A Tribute to Duran Duran set to come out next week.
The cover of Duran Duran’s “Come Undone” from their 1993 self- titled sophomore album features a dramatic reinterpretation of the pop tune.
Round spoke with USA Today about the cover, describing, “The original is very upbeat, yet the simple repeated chorus lyric struck me as so dramatic and beautiful, and I wanted to capture some of that in this version. I also wanted to bring out the darker more longing feeling of the lyrics which was aided by Aiden [Hawkin]’s voice and the angular guitars and brooding synths.”
The eccentric rendition swells slowly around a heavy piano melody with Round’s powerful croon building into a Florence Welch -esque blaze of vocals and heavy synths. The cover featuring Aidan Hawken will be on the upcoming LP set to release August 5th. The LP will benefit Amnesty International and feature covers from Moby, Warpaint, and Austra, among others.
