English multi-instrumentalist Jonny Greenwood is best known as lead guitarist for the band Radiohead. Greenwood is also an established composer and has written soundtracks for the films Bodysong, Norwegian Wood, We Need to Talk About Kevin, and The Master. He has also worked as a composer for the BBC, during which time he composed smear, Piano for Children and Popcorn Superhet Receiver.
In 2007 Greenwood worked with director Paul Thomas Anderson, whom also directed The Master, to score his film There Will Be Blood. The resulting score contains a segment of Popcorn Superhet Receiver as well as music by Arvo Pärt, and Brahms. It won Greenwood the Best Film Score at the Evening Standard British Film Awards in 2007 and a Critics’ Choice Award. Greenwood also worked on Anderson’s movie Inherent Vice. which is due out in late 2014.
Greenwood will be performing the film score live with over fifty members of the Wordless Music Orchestra during a screening of There Will Be Blood at the United Palace Theatre. It will be conducted by Ryan McAdams. Greenwood will play the ondes martenot, an instrument he’s used both as a member of Radiohead as well as as a solo artist.
