Geoff Rickly of Thursday and United Nations will be leading the new indie-rock band No Devotion, which is comprised of the former members of disbanded UK group Lostprophets.
The new collective released the single “Stay” today, along with B-side “Eyeshadow.” The tracks are available now digitally and will be released on 12″ vinyl on July 21.
Lostprophets was a Welsh band that had a multi-platinum career for 15 years, until lead vocalist Ian Watkins was charged with child sex offenses at the end of 2012. By the end of 2013, Watkins had pleaded guilty to almost all of the charges against him, including two counts of attempted rape of an 11-month-old infant. The former frontman ended up being sentenced to 35 years in prison, two-thirds of which must be served in full before he is eligible for release.
Lostprophets member Stuart Richardson said that, in the face of Watkins’s legal troubles, “we didn’t know if we would ever make music again, if people would look us in the face. Everything felt like it was over.” They approached Rickly, who eventually agreed to front the new project: “I had always liked these guys in passing: they’re funny and self-aware. I didn’t think it was fair, what was happening to them. And, well, the music was too good to pass up,” he said.
