Karen O Announces New Album Crush Songs for September Release

Yeah Yeah Yeah’s frontwoman Karen O has just signed to Cult Records. Cult will be releasing her first solo album, Crush Songs, on September 9, 2014 in conjunction with Kobalt Label Services. The album will be available for pre-release in a limited edition vinyl album that incorporates O’s own drawings, handwritten lyrics, and more surprises.

You may be wondering where the title “Crush Songs” originates.

O said in a press release that “when I was 27 I crushed a lot. [And] I wasn’t sure if I’d fall in love again.” These songs were written and recorded privately in 2006 and 2007. The record as a whole is a collection of intimate lo-fi bedroom recordings that are in the same vein as O’s Academy-award nominated “The Moon Song.” Of the songs O’ said, “They are the soundtrack to what was an ever continuing love crusade. I hope they keep you company in yours.”

Julian Casablancas, the founder of Cult Records, said that he is “so excited, lucky, and proud to be involved with such a classic album,” according to a press release. And, he added, “I just wanna listen to it all day. Karen is an all time great.”

In addition to having the Oscar nominated “The Moon Song”, O’s group Yeah Yeah Yeah’s have been nominated for three Grammy awards, and they’ve released four critically acclaimed studio albums. And, to pre-order O’s solo record click here.
