Lana Del Rey Discredits “I Wish I Was Dead” Interview Quote

It’s been a little over a week since Lana Del Rey’s interview with The Guardian – plenty of time for the dark, intensely negative article to generate an ever-expanding fracas. The singer has added a new twist to the story by discrediting some of her more extreme statements, claiming that they emerged after she was asked intentionally leading questions.

Interviews don’t come much darker than Del Rey’s. In her recent chat with The Guardian she detailed the enormous backlash that accompanied her meteoric rise to prominence. The singer even went as far as to say “I wish I was dead already” at one point – can’t get much clearer than that.

Or maybe you can, because it seems that Del Rey’s regretting some of her words. Three now-deleted tweets from Del Rey actually seem to discredit both the interview and the interviewer.

One note: she did confuse the name of her interviewer, wrongly identifying him as “Alexis” (likely Alexis Petridis, a critic at The Guardian) when she was actually speaking with editor Tim Jonze. Jonze mentioned this, along with some other interview details in an essay written in response to Del Rey’s claims.
