British indie rockers Alt-J have just released “Hunger of the Pine,” the first single from their much-anticipated sophomore release This is All Yours (due September 22).
“Hunger of the Pine” is as strangely groovy as anything off Alt-J’s acclaimed 2012 debut An Awesome Wave. The band, comprised of Joe Newman, Thom Green, Gus Unger-Hamilton and Gwil Sainsbury, came out of relative obscurity — they formed as a student band at Leeds University in 2007 — to become pioneers of a new sound that fuses folk, hip-hop, synthpop and, often, more.
Listen to “Hunger of the Pine” (which rather innovatively samples Miley Cyrus’s “4×4”) below. And, if you dig it, preorder This Is All Yours here.
