Nic Offer (vocals/keys), Allan Wilson (horns/percussion/keys/vocals), Mario Andreoni (guitar/keys), Dan Gorman (horns/percussion/keys), Paul Quattrone (drums) and Rafael Cohen (vocals/guitar/keyboard) make up the dance-punk band !!!. Pronounced “chk chk chk”, the oddly sonic name choice was inspired by the film The Gods Must Be Crazy, in which the Khoisan language of the Bushman appears in the subtitles as exclamation points. Although some band members state that “!!!” can be said by repeating any monosyllabic sound three times; however, the band’s myspace is registered as “chk chk chk” which suggested a preferred pronunciation.
The band formed in 1996 when members of Californian bands The Yah Mos, Black Liquorice and Popesmashers joined forces after touring together. In 2001, !!! released !!! off of Gold Standard Labs. This was followed up by Louden Up Now on Touch and Go/Warp in 2004. For their next three albums, the band settled with Warp Records and released Myth Takes in 2007, Strange Weather, Isn’t It in 2010 and THR!!!ER in 2013. Their most recent effort included the singles “Slyd” and “One Girl/One Boy” as well as the bonus track “Midnight at the Blur.”
