Mike Byrne, the drummer for Smashing Pumpkins has decided to part with the group. The reason behind Byrne’s departure from the group has yet to be clarified. According to Smashing Pumpkins’ frontman, Billy Corgan “Mike, like Elvis, has left the building.”
Smashing Pumpkins recently recruited percussionist Tommy Lee of Mötley Crüe. It was initially assumed that Lee and Byrne would play alongside one another. However now that is not the case and Lee is featured on all nine tracks of the Smashing Pumpkins’ upcoming album Monuments to an Elegy.
In 2010, Byrne came in as a replacement for Jimmy Chamberlin. Since his joining he has played in a number of performances. Most notably are his drum performances on the ongoing 44-song project, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope. He also played on the 2012 album Oceania.
