Kimbra Announces New Album for August 2014 Release Featuring Collaborations with Matt Bellamy, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Flying Lotus

Kimbra will release a new album, called The Golden Echo, on August 19th, 2014. The Gold Echo is the second album from the Grammy Award-winning New Zealander, following her 2011 debut album, Vows. Her upcoming release will be out on Warner Bros. Records.

The Golden Echo is described, in a recent press release, as being the ultimate pop album for it’s complexity, ambitiousness, and sophistication. Kimbra worked on the songs for the album in her bedroom studio on a farm in Los Angeles neighborhood of Silver Lake, Calif.. She moved there the day after she won two Grammy’s – “Record of the Year” and “Best Duo/Group Performance” – for her collaboration with Gotye on “Somebody That I Used to Know”. Of that time, Kimbra said, “It was a very humbling experience,” according to the press release.

Her simple bedroom aesthetic is rounded out by a host of musicians, including: Michael Jackson’s main studio drummer John JR Robinson, Thundercat and Michael Shuman of Queens of the Stone Age on bass. It also features the talents of R&B singer Bilal and legendary musician John Legend.

Kimbra is co-producing The Golden Echo with Rich Costey of Muse, Interpol, and Foster the People fame. Costey has been on her dream list of collaborators since she was 15, according to the press release. Also, she worked on songs with Dave Longstreth and Flying Lotus while making The Golden Echo that are to be released sometime later this year.

On June 3rd, JustJared.com exclusively premiered of Kimbra’s latest single, “90’s Music”. The video for “90’s Music” was directed by Justin Francis, and features a guest appearance by Muse’s Matt Bellamy.

Additionally, The Golden Echo is being released as a standard and deluxe edition. The deluxe edition contains three bonus tracks that feature appearances by Ben Weinman of The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Mars Volta’s Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, and Jonas Bjerre of the Danish band, Mew. Both versions are now available for pre-order.
