St. Vincent w/ San Fermin @ Prospect Park

Multi-instrumentalist St. Vincent, then Annie Clarke, began as a touring member of The Polyphonic Spree, a symphonic rock band the size of a small army. She also toured with Sufjan Stevens’ as a part of his touring band before beginning to record her own music in 2006. Long before she transformed into the grey haired leading lady with the cult leader vibe, St. Vincent released Marry Me on Beggars Banquet Records.

She would release two more albums, Actor and Strange Mercy, before grabbing everyone’s attention with Love This Giant, her 2012 collaborative effort with David Byrne. Jude Clarke of BBC Music called the album “a perfect cerebral pop pairing.” The two toured extensively to promote the album, performing lead singles “Who” and “Weekend in the Dust” on shows, like Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and The Colbert Report.

Two years later, St. Vincent released a self-titled solo album and cemented herself as the new face of art rock. St. Vincent marks a definitive step in her evolution as a solo artist. The Rolling Stone called the record “her tightest, tensest, best set of songs to date, with wry, twisty beats pushing her lovably ornery melodies toward grueling revelations.”

The show is part of the Celebrate Brooklyn concert series in Prospect Park’s Bandshell. Last year’s series drew over 250,000 attendees, so arrive early and stake out a good spot. The “Friends Tent” will be open to all, but the “Sponsor Tent” will be closed for a private event. The show will go on rain or shine.
