Californian indie-rockers Youngblood Hawke, named for the Herman Wouk, released their debut EP Youngblood Hawke in August 2013 to critical acclaim. It peaked at No. 193 on the US Billboard 200 chart and No. 3 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart. Their single “Forever” was a Starbucks Pick of the Week and “We Come Running”, another single, was featured as the iTunes “Single of the Week.” The “We Come Running” music video, which was directed by Marc Klasfeld, features band members Simon Katz, Sam Martin, Alice Katz, Nik Hughes, Omar Ahmed and Tasso Smith playing with instruments and sharks underwater to promote conservation efforts.
Having signed to Universal Republic the previous fall, Youngblood Hawke wrote full-length Wake Up in April of 2013. For the record the band re-released all the songs from their EP, adding eight new tracks. Allmusic called the effort “dancey, often hummable melodic pop songs” and the magazine Frontiers noted astutely that Wake Up was “the kind of record you want to blare out of your car windows while breaking the speed limit on the freeway.”
The band’s performance will be part of the 2014 Summer Concert Series held at The Surf Lodge. Admission is free; however, concerts will be held on the Lodge’s porch and viewing space is first-come, first-served. Arrive early to score a good spot.
