An unfinished rough mix of Led Zeppelin’s “La La,” which is part of the band’s upcoming reissues series, has surfaced online. The Deluxe versions of Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II and Led Zeppelin III are set to be released on June 2nd.
The forthcoming remasters will also include Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love”, demos which Jimmy Page recently talked about in an interview with Guitar World. Page said he wrote the song, the opener on 1969’s Led Zeppelin II, by trying to imagine the full arrangement before entering the studio. He added he always envisioned the song’s signature middle section would be “pretty avant garde”, but was concerned he was going to have edit it down to make it more palatable.
In the interview, Paige explained how he used experimental sounds and recording techniques that nobody had tried before the session which took place in 1969. Paige said, “I detuned the guitar radically and just basically pulled on the strings to make an assortment of growling noises – evil sounds that you’re not supposed to hear on commercial radio. adding the experimental sounds and recording techniques were things no one had ever tried before the session in 1969. The new versions of the legendary albums have been digitally remastered by Paige himself and feature various bonus tracks and unheard takes.
In May, mxdwn reported that the band faced accusations that notably their most famous song, “Stairway to Heaven,” was a rip off of Spirit’s 1968 song “Taurus.” The reissues and recent comments by Paige about Robert Plant’s touring status, caused the trust of the late lead singer of Spirit, Randy California, to bring up the issue. Although copyright infringement suits can only be filed in the first three years after the material is released, California’s trust hopes to sue for a portion of proceeds from the rereleases.
