Video footage has surfaced of Tori Amos’s cover of Metallica’s song, “Nothing Else Matters,” earlier this month at a performance in Nottingham, England. The interesting combination of the two genres may seem odd to some listeners, but this isn’t the first time Amos has covered a metal band.
It was an unexpected, but interesting out-of-genre performance for Amos, who just released her fourteenth studio album, Unrepentant Geraldines this month. Last month, in support of the album, she played show at Rough Trade NYC that was live streamed on mxdwn.
Amos has also covered metal band Slayer’s classic song “Raining Blood” on her 2001 album, Strange Little Girls. She also made headlines a few years back when she told Spinner.com that her music had emotions more powerful than any music that the heaviest of metal bands could churn out.
“Nothing Else Matters,” was a big hit for Metallica when it came out in 1991, reaching Number 11 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart. The song was one of the singles for the band’s self-titled fifth album and gained popularity again when it was featured in the hit game Guitar Hero.
