The Smashing Pumpkins have a plan in the works to re-issue their classic record Machina. But this won’t be a simple remaster, and you can expect new versions of old material, as well as new contributing artists to play a part.
According to the Smashing Pumpkin’s website, Billy Corgan has indicated plans to “put the album not only in it’s original and intended double/triple album sequence, but has designs on commissioning new remixes of all materials…the intention [Corgan] says is clear: to present Machina in the original form in which it was written; or in his words, ‘as theatrical narrative.’” Corgan also mentions the possibility of reaching out to new artists to record parts for various Machina compositions, so the finished product could sound like much more than just a refreshed version of an older record. Earlier this year, Corgan performed an eight hour aural interpretation of Herman Hesse’s novel Siddhartha. And the rest of the group is certainly remaining active, too, as The Smashing Pumpkins also plan to reissue 1998’s Adore, in addition to their planned 2015 album releases, Monuments to an Elegy and Day for Night.
