Austin-based psych funk/Latin band Brownout plays tribute to Black Sabbath in their own musical and ingenious latin way.
The decade-old band – founded by members of the Grammy award-winning orchestra Grupo Fantasma – reinterpreted the catalog of metal godfathers Black Sabbath in a record to be released June 24th via UBIQUITY RECORDS. From this production, the band reveals two tracks “The Wizard” and “Hand of Doom”. The latter features The Black Angels‘ Alex Maas on vocals and will be released as a limited edition 10-inch, color-splattered vinyl the same day.
Tribute doesn’t stop there, the band also came up with an alter ego – Brown Sabbath – for this release and are about to embark on a summer tour in support of the album which is called Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath. Tour will include a special performance on June 5th at the legendary The Satellite in Los Angeles and will include festivals such as Pickathon 2014

It was an overly ambitious attempt at challenging ourselves as musicians. Bridging the gap between our music and Black Sabbath is not as far of a stretch as it might seem though. Sabbath was not only heavy, but soulful and funky in their own dark way. Half the band grew up as metal heads too, so it came naturally. The experience is already beginning to influence our next album of original music.
