It’s the video version of a group of songs already mashed together and put on an album 12 years ago. A multimedia project that so far has yielded 23 hour-long visual versions of mash-up music, the 24th hour rounds out a complete day and does not disappoint.
As Heard on the Radio Soulwax Pt 2 came out in 2002 under the label 2ManyDJs and spans the gamut of popular artists from 2002 and before. Destiny’s Child, Michael Jackson, Salt-N-Pepa, Peaches and The Velvet Underground all make appearances on the album and in the video, they become even more acquainted with each other, as one song literally transitions into the next with wacky, but clever and understandable images that give a nod to each group’s symbolism, album covers, iconic images and style.
It’s a video that gives a lot of attention to the images of the artists themselves, many of the pictures taken off of album covers and animated to look like the artist is singing, dancing or moving around. The visual mix of As Heard on the Radio Soulwax Pt 2 is visually stimulating and impossible to get tired of, with the images changing every few seconds and animated cutouts and whimsical scenes literally providing over an hour of entertainment. In a statement, Soulwax said that the video was a long time coming.
“12 years, 2 months and 24 days later, 114 tracks are re-united in one single hour of visual mayhem. As heard on the radio becomes as seen on the app..is this technically Pt III? Probably. Who’s counting? Who cares? Just watch it.”
