It’s the newest release for the British punk band since their 2013 debut album, Silence Yourself. The band has released two new tracks, one a cover of Suicide’s “Dream Baby Dream,” and the other, a brand new original song from the band, called “Fuckers.”
It’s a track that was recorded live during the band’s November performance at London’s Forum, and the video that goes along with the original track is essentially a live concert performance. But it’s more than that. First of all, the full performance is over 10 minutes long and energetic, with heavy drum and cymbal beats throughout. It’s hard to lose focus with Savages’ banging instrumentals and sound that gradually crescendos throughout the show. The aesthetics of the video are also impressive for a live show, with lots of shifting camera angles and lights that only make the band’s image on the stage clearer. It’s a clearly set and choreographed show that feels like it was meant to be incorporated into a music video, not just a taping of the performance itself.
The band’s relatively quick rise to success (they formed in 2011 and by 2013, were playing Coachella) may be because of releases like these. Savages proves that it’s not all about the artistic, flashy images that so many bands use to create their videos, but that sometimes, a professionally shot live performance can do the trick.
