Foo Fighters Perform Surprise Set at D.C. Trouble Funk Tribute Event

Though the Foo Fighters have been quiet for a little while now, we’ve seen not one but two performances in the last month from these rockers. Monday night, the second of these unfolded at a tribute concert for Trouble Funk at Washington DC’s 9:30 Club.

Last night, Dave Grohl and the Foo crew joined other rock legends Trouble Funk and impromptu band The Don’t Need It’s (Grohl + Bad Brains + Scream) to celebrate the birthday of Trouble Funk legend Big Tony Fisher. The band performed a surprise set by filling in the “Special Guest” slot on the bill, shared with Trouble Funk and the one-time supergroup The Don’t Need It’s- comprised of Grohl, Darryl Jenifer, Dr. Know, and Pete Stahl). Grohl also MC’d the evening, explaining the importance of both the venue and Trouble Funk on his musical career by stating he had been to the famous 9:30 Club “hundreds of times” and “saw some shows that changed [his] life.”

Though everyone expected the Foo Fighters and Grohl especially to be invested in the tribute, few expected the 17 song set that took the listeners on a journey from earlier hits (1997’s “Monkey Wrench”, or the epic “Learn to Fly”) with more recent tracks off their latest album, Wasting Light (“Arlandria”, “Times Like These”. Though rumored to be in the desert of California recording their eighth album (!), Foo Fighters came out full force in DC last night, and the set list is to die for. Check it out below.
