Courtney Love, who recently announced plans to reunite the classic Hole lineup, was recently overheard speaking about ending her feud with former Nirvana drummer David Grohl and the band’s recent reunion at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Love and Grohl had been engaged in a decades long dispute following Kurt Cobain’s suicide and the breakup of the band. But the tussle was brought to a close as the two hugged at Nirvana’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction last month, with Love tweeting “The most magical part of the evening. Thank you Dave, love you. I know this made (Kurt) smile up there”.
In a recent interview, Love shared her feelings on that night. On making peace with Dave Grohl, Love said: “Someone suggested we go into the press room and hug it out, but I was like, ‘What? Nooo.’ We hugged privately. We didn’t whore it out. It was genuine. I had this long speech, which I worked my ass off on, and then I saw it on the teleprompter, and was just like, ‘Don’t even bother, just get this over with and bury the hatchet.’”
Love also gave her reviews of Nirvana’s performances that night, which included four female vocalists appearing in the place of her late husband.
“Initially, I thought it was sexist, and a little bit ghettoizing,” Love said. “But then I was like, ‘No, Kurt would have loved this.’” She had positive things to say about guest vocalists Joan Jett, Kim Gordon, St. Vincent, and Lorde, although she admitted that she doesn’t know “where Lorde is going”.
“I like the St. Vincent girl a lot — I looked at some of her YouTubes and I like her look, her attitude, her whole thing. She was pretty cool, especially for being as nervous as she probably was.” Yet Sonic Youth frontwoman Kim Gordon’s rendition of “Aneurysm” impressed Love the most.
“Kim gave the punkest performance, the one that Kurt would’ve approved of the most,” Love said. “It was the punkest thing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has ever seen. I was really proud of that.”
