Sleater-Kinney’s Corin Tucker and R.E.M.’s Peter Buck Team Up to Form New Band super-Earth

Corin Tucker, formerly of Sleater-Kinney, and R.E.M guitarist Peter Buck have set hearts aflutter everywhere when they announced their involvement in a new band, super-Earth.

Tucker and Buck are joined by Scott McCaughey of Young Fresh Fellows and Minus 5, Bill Rieflin of Swans and Ministry, and Kurt Bloch, formerly of Fastbacks. Together, with the working title super-Earth, the band has announced little aside from their support of Buck’s solo shows at Portland Secret Society Ballroom. Additionally, McCaughey told the Mercury than Fans can expect “an entire set of soon-to-be-album-sized new compositions by said Buck/Tucker combine.”

This is not the first time Tucker and Buck have worked together; in on Buck’s 2012 and 2014 solo records, Peter Buck and I Am Back To Blow Your Mind Once Again, Tucker contributed vocals. They also shared the stage at the legendary Sleater-Kinney Reunion, where fans almost lost it when the group covered “Rockin’ in the Free World” with grunge masters Pearl Jam. Though they have said the band name super-Earth is subject to change, this group will definitely be a force to reckon with in the coming months. Bring it on!
