The hour-long season six finale of NBC sitcom Parks And Recreation treated viewers to a ton of guest stars. Throughout the season, the show had been building up to the Pawnee/Eagleton Unity Concert, which was hyped as a coming together celebration for the show’s town of Pawnee, Indiana after its merger with rival neighbor Eagleton.
Lucky viewers were happy to note that the performances featured real life musicians. Bobby Knight Ranger was really indie noise band Yo La Tengo. Jeff Tweedy, last seen rocking at the Fillmore in San Francisco, played the frontman of Land Ho!. The Decemberists, Ginuwine and Letters To Cleo also performed. At the end of the night, all celebrity guests came together on-stage (Michelle Obama included) for a rendition of “Five Thousand Candles in the Wind” a tribute anthem to deceased miniature horse Li’l Sebastian, who returns in ghost form to grace the finale with a hologram appearance. To further underscore the tribute, Ginuwine performed his hit “Pony”, which the show claims was written with Sebastian in mind.
When not eulogizing, The Decemberists have been busy gearing up for their V is For Victory benefit concert in Portland that will feature a full performance of their Castaways and Cutouts album to promote their Victory Academy, which supports children with autism.
