WATCH: Wire Releases New Track “Blogging” Live on KEXP

It’s new material from post-punk legends whose project is still very much alive. Wire appeared live on KEXP in Seattle last November, when they were in Seattle for their Drill Festival, and there was a surprise in the middle of the live show.

After talking a little bit about their most current album, Change Becomes Us, Wire dropped the new song “Blogging.” It came as the second song of a full 20-minute session that the band played in studio, also giving performances of “Marooned,” “Adore Your Island” and “Stealth of a Stork.” Although the interview and live performance was recorded last November, it was just recently put online. “Blogging” isn’t a long song, but at three and a half minutes, it’s a longer track for a band who’s had some of its biggest hits time in at under two minutes. It’s a track with sophisticated and consistent guitar riffs and simple, but effective vocals. It doesn’t stray from Wire’s post-punk roots, but “Blogging” also has a modern sound and doesn’t date the British rockers, fitting right in with the trends being seen in releases by similarly styled, but newer bands.

Change Becomes Us marks the thirteenth album for the band, who’ve enjoyed a degree of major commercial success. But Wire’s other big gift to the music world was its capacity to influence later acts, with Ladytron, Sonic Youth, and most notably R.E.M. claiming they took ideas from Wire. You can catch the video of the KEXP performance below, as well as the station’s live interview with the band, below.
