Following their very successful sets at Coachella (Green Day’s own Billie Joe Armstrong joined the band for an ass kicking performance) , the seminal rock band does an exception on their ‘just festivals’ new rule and plans going back home to perform after 23 years of absence

The band reunited last year for Riot Fest performances and have kept together since, although they’re currently just playing festivals such as Coachella and the upcoming Austin City Limits 2014 and the Boston Calling Music Festival. The St. Paul natives decided to go back home for very special performance at the St. Paul Saints’ Midway Stadium scheduled to be demolished later this year. According to Paste Magazine, many shows were offered to the band for their acclaimed hometown show, however they “just had to figure the right one” commented Ben Perlstein, Tommy Stinson’s manager.
It just made so much sense to play in the field of a minor league baseball team right before it gets torn down. It’s going to be the last concert there.
1991 was the last time St. Paul natives saw the band perform, so now hometown fans of the Replacements will get the chance to experience the band after three decades of abstinence; September 13 is the chosen date and tickets will be $50 and will go out on sale May 3 on etix.com and the stadium’s box office.
