It’s a somewhat unlikely collaboration between two big names, but the result isn’t bad. After a successful first weekend Coachella set, Chromeo has teamed up with Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig for a new track, the crooning, subtle “Ezra’s Interlude.”

The track doesn’t even last two minutes, but it’s effective. Starting with a slow piano line and minimal background accompaniment, the song at first doesn’t seem characteristic of Chromeo, but the beat picks up. It has a different feel than Chromeo’s signature tracks, but it’s easy to see where Ezra Koenig fits in. The new track brings to mind some of the slower songs off of Vampire Weekend’s most recent album, Modern Vampires of the City. It feels like a collaboration and it’s interesting to see the two styles merge and combine.
“Ezra’s Interlude” is a single off of Chromeo’s upcoming album, White Women, due out early next month via Atlantic Records. And Ezra Koenig isn’t the only other talent working on the band’s latest release. Chromeo has also collaborated with Toro Y Moi for “Come Alive” and Solange for “Lost on the Way Home.” So far, some of the material released from the newest album seems to come out of pop influences, rather than using Chromeo’s usual funk beats. The diversity in style of White Women is bound to surprise a few fans, but may also win a few more fans to the camp.
