Muse has announced that they will begin work on a new album next month. Drummer Dominic Howard told KROQ, “We’re going to go back in May and start working on some new stuff, so I think we’ll start recording it this year.”
Matt Bellamy, told the Rolling Stone of his plans for this seventh album. “I have this strong feeling that the next album should be something that really does strip away the additional things that we’ve experimented with on the last two albums, which is electronics, symphonics and orchestral work and all that kind of stuff,” he said. “I kind of feel like it will be nice to reconnect and remind ourselves of just the basics of who we are.” Bellamy went on to say that he already has ideas for the album and has written a couple of songs.
Muse recently performed “Lithium” at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The song was performed as a tribute to Kurt Cobain, as it was the 20th anniversary of his death. Muse felt this was a sign of respect and a good way to honor a man that had so much influence on their careers and their music.
Howard said, “They were massively influential to us when we were growing up. They’re one of the reasons we picked up some instruments and decided to start a band in the first place, and I think that for many other millions of people, they were influential for starting bands. We all love them, it was a band that all three of us loved and it was that kind of music and some other bands that brought us together and we became friends because of that.”
Coachella is the band’s last performance on the tour for their sixth album ‘The 2nd Law’. Their final performance will be this Saturday, April 19. Muse frontman, Matt Bellamy will also be featured on the new album by Kimbra.
