Adding to the anticipation of their 12th album, Echo and the Bunnymen have unveiled two new tracks; “Lovers on the Run” and “Holy Moses”. The Album, Meteorites is set to debut on April 28 in the U.K and June 3 in the US.
Ian McCollouch describes this album as, “ [dealing with] the struggle, and actually admitting, against depression, choices I’ve made, lifestyle thing,” He continued, “It’s a tough one to undo – or even to face, never mind attempt to put right”.
From the tracklist it is clear that the album deals with religious undertones. When interviewed about the religious messages behind the music, McCollouch responded, “Even God needs His garden weeded”.
He went more into specifics by explaining the role of religion in “Holy Moses”. He said, “In this song, I suppose Moses is the designated gardener, and he doesn’t know where God’s gone to, so he doesn’t know what he’s supposed to weed or tend to… If Moses can’t find God, then how can I? Are we praying to someone who just isn’t there? I want to believe that He is, in some form or another.”
