Kim Deal Announces The Breeders’ Work on New Album

According to Kim Deal, The Breeders have been hard at work. She says the band is now actively working on their first full-length album in six years, the first they’ve put out since 2008’s Mountain Battles. It’s the latest project Deal’s signed onto since announcing her departure from the Pixies last year, giving her more time to focus on her work with The Breeders and her various solo projects.

In 2009, Deal took a break from The Breeders and went back on tour with the Pixies. But last March, The Breeders went back on tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their hit album Last Splash. During that tour, Deal announced that she had decided to move on from the Pixies, after 25 years with the band. Deal said in an interview with Sterogum that The Breeders are making lots of progress with their upcoming album.

“We’re down in the basement recording and the songs are sounding good. Today we’re working on Josephine [Wiggs] ‘s song and it’s sounding really good. I’ve got a good melody line for it and got some lyrics. So that’s what we’re going to be recording today, one of her songs. Then I’ve got two that have lyrics and a melody line but I don’t like the drum part on one of them. The other one sounds pretty cool. We’ll probably get those three going. And I have other songs. There’s one that I really like that I don’t think Josephine likes so much but I really like it.”

In addition to her current work with The Breeders, Kim Deal has been releasing 7 inch singles of her solo recordings. You can watch “The Root,” a collaboration with Morgan Nagler, below:
