Members of The Mars Volta and Flea Form New Band Antemasque

Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López of The Mars Volta are collaborating with Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea to make music as Antemasque.

Though it isn’t exactly a Mars Volta reunion, Bixler-Zavala and Rodríguez-López haven’t played together in a while. The members of The Mars Volta are no strangers to multiple projects and supergroups. Rodríguez-López belongs to one called Kimono Cult, which also includes Teri Gender Bender and John Frusciante. Bixler-Zavala has another project as well called Zavalaz, while The Mars Volta drummer Dave Elitch, who is also part of Antemasque, is in the supergroup Killer Be Killed.

Judging by The Mars Volta Twitter feed, it would seem as if the band members have not performed together since touring in 2012, so fans excited to hear new material, even if from a technically different group, will be pleased about Antemasque. The group’s social media feed is also updating somewhat frequently with information about the new band.
