XL Recordings Announces Release of Gil Scott-Heron Album Nothing New

Gil Scott-Heron would have been 65 on April 1, 2014, so XL Recordings announced today the release of an album of unheard recordings by the singer and poet. The album will be titled Nothing New.

Scott-Heron died three years ago, at the age of 62. A well-respected artist, Scott-Heron’s last release was sanctioned remix of Scott-Heron’s last album, I’m New Here, by Jamie Smith of The xx, and Kanye West performed at his memorial service.

Gil Scott-Heron performed stripped-down new versions of some of his classics at New York’s Looking Glass Studios in 2008, during the I’m New Here sessions. These tracks will be the ones featured on Nothing New. The posthumous album will be available only on 12″ vinyl, limited to 3000 copies and released exclusively for Record Store Day on April 19, 2014.
