Billy Corgan has announced that the Smashing Pumpkins will be releasing two new albums in 2015. Described as “guitars, guitars, guitars, and more guitars,” the two new albums, Monuments To An Elegy and Day For Night are said to be “more on the epic side of things than say, grossly metallic.”
This news comes via their new website called the Panopticon, whose sole purpose is to keep their fans updated daily on the progress of these new albums. This news stands as the initial post of the new nexus, which will be updated every evening following their recording sessions, giving insight to song titles, lyrics, poetic impressions, pictures, sound clips, and studio gear offered with a bird’s eye view of the process as it unfolds.
Manning the boards for the recording sessions which start today is Howard Willing, who first worked with the band on the 1998 album Adore. With plenty of the songs already written and ready to go, the first single is expected by the end of the year.
In 2009 following the departure of founding member Jimmy Chamberlin, Billy Corgan began working on a concept album to recapture the band’s “psychedelic roots,” called Teargarden by Kaleidyscope. Originally conceived as a 44 song project released through MP3’s, The band released ten songs as free downloads through their official website and compiled eight of them in two box sets before opting to rework the project. In 2011, the full band recorded the full-length “album within an album,” Oceania which was released in June of 2012.
UPDATE: According to official confirmation from the Smashing Pumpkins publicist, that Monuments to an Elegy and Day For Night are officially the completion of the Teargarden by Kaleidyscope album.
