SXSW 2014: The Spotify House Presents G-Eazy

The lime green house is where it seemed everyone wanted to be at 2pm for G-Eazy’s showcase. The lines were stretching across the block, and people were desperately trying to make it in. Once entry was permitted, MO had just left the stage, and a crowd was forming at the second stage in the Spotify House.

While the crew set up the equipment, fans stayed occupied with music trivia and free food and drinks. Spotify workers were also distributingfree Spotify SXSW Swag including bags, shirts, stickers, and even sunglasses. I mean hey, who doesn’t love free stuff!? With the distractions time seemed to go by seemingly fast, and before you knew it the stage was crowded and G-Eazy was ready to take the stage. He came on and started playing one of his newest singles “Far Alone”. The heavy bass riled the crowd as the show was getting started. The sun was beating down, but that didn’t seem stop fans from jumping up and down and getting sweaty. G-Eazy stated he skipped a night of rest just to fly to Austin to perform SXSW. Seeing that he played here less than 4 weeks ago, he stated that he just really loves the city of Austin. No matter his sleep deprivation from the prior night as stated, he requested whiskey on stage and started drinking. Although it was only 2 in the afternoon, it didn’t stop fans from following his lead and taking a drink as well. Multiple even went and got a whiskey when G-Eazy requested one himself.

When he performed an unreleased song for the crowed, they responded as if they already knew it and keep dancing and swinging their hips. The place was so heavy with bass, one of the speakers fell off the stage, and fans had to lift it back to where it belonged. Thankfully no one was hurt and the show continued as if nothing happened. It’s hard to say whether G-Eazy even noticed! Along stage with G-Eazy was Christopher Anderson, who is known for his remix of G-Eazy’s album Must Be Nice, titled, Must Be Twice. He is currently touring with G-Eazy on his national tour and throws down the beats at all his shows. As the show progressed, the fans were still in full swing. His set consisted of only a handful of songs, and he played for about 30 minutes.

He closed with his most popular single “Loaded” off his Must Be Nice album, and left the stage with a bang. After the show, he stuck around to snap a few photos with fans, and then he was off to play his next showcase.
