Pussy Riot, a Russian band, is a protest group based in Moscow. They support LGBT rights, feminist movements, and the overthrow of the apparent dictator, Vladimir Putin. Maria Alyokhina and Nadia Tolokonnikova, prominent members of Pussy Riot, have now commenced their prison rights campaign.
This rights group is called Zona Prava, or Law Zone in English. They launched the campaign in Saransk, which is the capital of Mordovia. These prisoners that the girls have come to defend are mere protesters, who reject the governing of Vladmir Putin. After being imprisoned themselves, new motive for the prison rights has been revealed and their passion for the cause can not be doubted. They were released December 2013, after being imprisoned for Pussy Riot’s performance protest in Putin.
The girls’ trials are continuous. Just a few weeks ago, Alyokhina and Tolokonnikova were attacked by a group of men and suffered chemical burns and head trauma. On the 14 of March, the girls were attacked yet again by two men with green antiseptic. The price they might suffer for their new prisoners rights group may be high, but both Alyokhina and Tolokonnikova will insist that it is worth the cost.
