It’s a fitting theme to end one of the coldest winters in several decades across a lot of the country. Minneapolis hip hop group Atmosphere has released the music video for its newest single “Bitter,” and it’s all about a snowball fight.
“Bitter” is the first release for upcoming Atmosphere album Southsiders, due out May 6 via Rhymesayers. Sean Daley (aka Slug) and producer Anthony Davis (aka Ant) have been working together for 25 years now and have put out six studio albums. This time around, the inspiration for the newest video was all about the weather, Daley says. “Due to how long and brutal this winter has been, we decided to get together with a bunch of friends and play in the snow. Here is the footage. The temperature this day was below 0. We hope you watch this when you are warm and cozy somewhere on the beach,” Daley said in a release for “Bitter”‘s video.
It might have been chilly, but the video still looks like a good time. Documenting a snowball fight in the park between two opposing groups, made up of seven or eight bundled up guys and girls on each side, it’s a tribute to snow angels, sledding and street plows. Complemented by a catchy and lighthearted, but still very simplistic rap beat, “Bitter” keeps the sense of humor that makes Atmosphere’s music so popular and in the end, a lot of fun.
The hip hop group has also announced a few tour dates, with three of them being shows at summer music festivals.
