Toadies to Play Rubberneck In Its Entirety for the First Time During SXSW 2014 at Stubb’s BBQ

It’s a big year for Texas-based band Toadies, and they’re celebrating by doing something they haven’t done before. For the 20th anniversary of the original release of Rubberneck, they’re playing the album in its entirety at a show at SXSW. The show will be Saturday, March 15 at Stubb’s BBQ in Austin.

It’s all part of the kickoff to a massive tour, of course. The SXSW show is just the beginning of a three-month-long strictly American tour, where they’ll continue to play the entire length of Rubberneck at each show. Starting and finishing in Austin, the tour includes a lot of Texas dates, no surprise for a band based in the state that holds an annual festival each September. And that’s not all the good news for Toadies fans looking for new material from the group. Frontman Vaden Todd Lewis told Billboard that Toadies is getting ready to finish sixth album, to follow the most recent release, Play.Rock.Music in 2012.

Toadies have enjoyed a loyal following for the 20 years since Toadies’ debut release of Rubberneck, but the 1994 album still remains the band’s most successful project to date. It has a huge following in its own right, and includes the hit song, “Possum Kingdom,” probably the band’s most well-known by a pretty wide margin. According to Billboard, the band also plans to re-release the hit album in an anniversary edition on April 1. The re-release isn’t skimping on the new material; the anniversary edition album will include live versions of “Possum Kingdom” and “Tyler,” unreleased bonus tracks called “Run In With Dad” and “Rockfish,” and a cover of Pylon’s “Stop It.” So although the band is working to create some new material, (according to Lewis, it’s going to include a lot of acoustic guitar sounds and may be a little “shocking” to Toadies fans) a lot of the turnout at the newest tour is going to be made up of die-hard fans looking forward to seeing a classic favorite played live from start to finish.
