The Stooges Announce Release of New Album Without Iggy

Punk rockers The Stooges are working on an album featuring songs that had previously only been performed live while Iggy takes a year off.

Iggy and the Stooges released an album together last year entitled Ready to Die. Guitarist James Williamson stated that Iggy wanted to take some time off, but the rest of the Stooges wanted to keep going, leading to the upcoming album.

The new album will feature songs from the Raw Power era that the band only ever played at live shows. The Stooges are collaborating with vocalists such as Ariel Pink, Mark Lanegan, Jello Biafra, the Orwells’ Mario Cuomo, blues singer Carolyn Wonderland and Le Butcherettes’ Teri Gender Bender. Tracks to appear on the record include “She Creatures of the Hollywood Hills,” “Wild Love,” “Heavy Liquid,” “Till the End of the Night” and more.

While some wonder if there is tension between Iggy Pop and the Stooges, both sides have denied any problems. Williamson said Iggy gave a blessing and wished the musicians success, and Iggy has confirmed that he doesn’t have a problem with or oppose anything. While the Stooges will not tour for the forthcoming album, Williamson mentioned that Iggy and the Stooges will be back together again for a tentative 2015 tour.
