Bleeding Rainbow – Interrupt

The Space Between Alternative and Punk

Philly based band Bleeding Rainbow’s newest album, Interrupt, finds itself lost without a home in which to categorize it. It becomes clear to the listener that these musicians have taken inspiration from the likes of the great rock and rollers like The Who, but have also added metal and punk twists to the album, as well– resulting in an interesting mish-mash of sound that works quite cohesively. Plus, it’s quite refreshing to hear such a strong female influence, in what some may consider to be “harsher” music, than we’re used to in the mainstream.

The album is not only a conglomeration of genres, but it also works as a completely polished project– that of a group that worked to record what they had in, let’s say a garage. Now I’m not saying the group did record their album in a garage, but rather that there are some aspects that feel natural rather than over-produced, which is endearing to the listener. This sound can really be heard on the track “Monochrome,” which has a highly distorted intro that could easily remind one of Nirvana.

Interrupt is a really fun and easy listen. It’s the kind of music you can just turn on for something in the background, or something you actually want to focus on. Songs like “Images” are the types of songs that you could put on in the mornings as a way to start the day off right. This album is refreshing because not only is it good music but it’s also genuine and original. Bleeding Rainbow is comprised of a group of truly talented musicians who have what it take to actually make it big.
