Spandau Ballet Announce Documentary Premiere and First U.S. Performance in 28 Years at SXSW 2014

After almost three decades since reinventing pop culture, seminal 80’s british-pop band Spandau Ballet return to the US.

With both hands full, the electro/funk/dance pioneers recently announced two big ones: a March performance on Austin’s SXSW and the world premiere of Soul Boys of the Western World a feature length film directed by George Hencken which tells the story of the band and their journey from being simple working class friends to becoming one of the most iconic super groups of the 80’s and of all time. According to the press release:

Soul Boys of the Western World is a voyage through the 80s in the company of Spandau Ballet, one of the decade’s most iconic bands. This archive-only documentary film tells the story of a group of working-class London lads who created a global music Empire, but at a price none of them imagined. (…) It is a film that speaks not only to fans of the band or those who harbor nostalgia for the 1980s, but also to anyone who has ever experienced friendship and loss.

The biopic will be screened on March 12th at 2:00pm at the Paramount Theatre during the SXSW 2014 Music and Film Festival. Later that night, the five original members of Spandau Ballet – Tom Hadley, John Keeble, Gary Kemp, Martin Kemp and Steve Norman – will put together their first performance in America in 28 years at the famed Vulvan Gas Company (The Vulcan) which will re-open after 44 years for this occasion.
