An all-star group has assembled to celebrate the life and legacy of Ronnie James Dio of Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, and Dio, and to raise funds for the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund.
Vocalist and songwriter Ronnie James Dio was one of the most loved figures in rock and roll history. Sadly, he passed away in 2010, of stomach cancer. His last performance was with Heaven and Hell on August 29th, 2009 in Atlantic City. MXDWN remembered him in In Memoriam: 2010.
To remember and celebrate his life and legacy, an all-star group has assembled to record 13 of their favorite tracks for a tribute album. The album will be produced by his longtime manager and wife Wendy Dio and will include contributions by such metal heavyweights as Metallica, Motörhead, Scorpions, Anthrax, and Rob Halford, as well as appearances by many of the musicians who performed with Dio over the years. This album will raise funds for Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund, co-funded by Wendy Dio.
The album will be released on April 1, 2014 via Rhino.
