Ladies and Gentlemen – Beck. Beck is back, streaming yet another new track, this one entitled “Waking Light”. His upcoming, 12th album Morning Phase continues to fill out, and continues to look pretty damn good.
If the gentle, emotional tone of the new song reminds you of Sea Change, Beck’s 2002 ode to heartbreak, then you’re on the right track. Morning Phase is meant as a more optimistic (Sea Change was less than cheery) companion to the older album. It’s the third taste of the upcoming album we’ve received, after tracks “Blue Moon” and “Wave”.
Exciting stirrings, since it’s been a bit since we’ve heard from the long-haired Michael Cera impersonator. Modern Guilt, released way back in 2008 was the last full-length studio album we’ve gotten from him. Since then, he’s branched out into production, movie scoring, and releasing an odd concept album in the form of sheet music, encouraging other artists to take their own crack at it. Recent health issues, including worries about recovery from a spinal injury have contributed to the wait. But the drought is ending; check out the new material below.
