Black Flag Bassist Dave Klein Quits the Band

It’s something new every week for Black Flag. The latest setback is the loss of their bassist, Dave Klein, who apparently quit near the end of 2013. It’s official now, thanks to some Facebook comments, and it looks like BF is suddenly in the market for a new bassist.

All the best to Black Flag, but this has all the marks of a seriously star-crossed reunion. First off, it was only sort of a reunion to start with. Yes, Greg Ginn, founder of Black Flag, did restart the band…but he also sued some ex band mates for performing as FLAG (the injunction flopped). Not that things have gone well on his end of things either. An acrimonious split with singer Ron Reyes led to his replacement by pro-skateboarder Mike Vallely, and some seriously lingering bad blood between the two that still produces social media sniping.

And now it’s Klein. While the bassist has yet to offer a Reyes-style smackdown of the band, he has also confirmed a parting of the ways. Klein will go on to play for Screeching Weasel, who have had their own share of drama lately.
